How do I password-protect a client photo gallery?
Set a password on the gallery itself, then send the link and the password separately. Anyone with the link is asked for the password before any photo loads. Use it for private commissions, embargoed work, and anything involving children. It is per gallery, so one client's password never opens another client's photos.
When to use one
Password protection matters most for weddings, corporate work under embargo, school and youth sport, and any shoot where the subject has not agreed to be publicly visible. For an open event where the point is that anyone can find their own photos, a password works against you.
Password, expiry and visibility are different controls
- Password gates who can open it.
- Expiry decides how long it stays open.
- Download permission decides what they can take away.
They are independent. A gallery can be public but download-disabled, or password-protected with full downloads on.
